Our Vision

In the January 17th Edition of Newsweek of our new millenium, readers nationwide are confronted with the fact that there are now over 10,000,000 orphans who suffer from a terrible disease through no fault of their own. These children lost their parents to AIDS and face the challenge of growing up with the disease themselves being robbed of all the wonderful things that are a part of a child's life no matter where they come from. As many as 32 children live in a two room house with a relative or soul whose compassion forbids them to turn away these children. People traveling the third world countries observe the reality of faces, lives, people and children lying on the streets, and orphans dying in the streets from AIDS because they have no where to go!

Readers are told that the disease respects no International Boundaries. Oceans do not prevent the disease from leaving other places and the reality of this has come to rest upon our own children and their parents of this country. Of the 10,000,00 children orphaned children with AIDS, our own country has over 450,000 children challenged with this disease. The National Health Statistics of the Center for Disease Control reports that in Los Angeles County alone there are 2000 children orphaned by their parents who died of AIDS.

Welcome Home Kids Centre has a dream. Our dream is to provide the highest quality of life for unwanted children challenged with AIDS and other threatening or terminally ill diseases. It envisions the creation of an environment that provides and atmosphere of life in a "real" homelike setting, rather than some cold institution, that will motivate our children to choose to heal and to enjoy their lives bringing them to joy and a purpose for themselves or others.

These children come from all walks of life and all cultural milieus to accept and to grow from their challenges. Even though others have a hopeless vision based upon certain realities, Welcome Home Kids Centre chooses a different focus. A focus that brings hope and confidence to all people. It envisions a place where people will find a real spiritual and healing spirit as expressed through the examples of great people like Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Dr. Martin Luther King, Francis Xavier Cabrini and other great minds. We start by believing, as in any medical challenge, that AIDS can be and will be healed despite its grave odds.

Not only do we envision our work with the children we also have a dream for our communities. We envision a responsibility of returning the communities generosity by providing professional academic, spiritual, medical training and care under the training and supervision of a qualified staff from all walks of life. As part of this vision we are forming a credentialed counseling program under the supervision of licensed, degreed and professional staff who will provide teaching strategies to reduce the impact of AIDS on our communities as we continue to search for a cure. To that end we also hope to establish a medical institution which will use and teach an integrative model of treatment by blending holistic concepts with modern medical technology. This institution will provide fruitful research: therefore in our vision we strongly believe that our children will heal and recover. A recovery that will add meaning to all members of the community. We envision that in this process our children will overcome this challenge and be recipients of a new life by bonding with our staff and volunteers who become the loving parents these children deserve.

To accomplish our goal we envision one hundred acres containing several small bungalows where our children will live with a staff of professionally qualified caregivers.

Children play! We envision specialized playground equipment and a recreation room where our children can learn arts and crafts.

Children have physical challenges! We envision hydrotherapy pools and other types of equipment used to treat atrophied muscles.

Children wear clothes! We envision a laundry room with a housekeeping department that will take care of the laundry needs and housekeeping duties.

Children need to eat! We envision a dining room and kitchen with experts in the field of nutrition to create delicious healthy meals.

Children need education! We envision home school classrooms with computers so they can learn these skills in order to participate in life to its fullness like normal healthy children.

Children need to exercise! We envision beautiful gardens with many water features and walking trails. We envision specialized transportation equipment to transport the children on outings and field trips.

Children need role models! We also envision positive role models who exuberate hope, and have themselves "Risen to the occasion" by challenging the disease, who can work with our kids.

Children need spiritual values! We envision a house of worship with liturgical equipment that will nourish all, including those who come to visit and be with our children, and above all we envision your best wishes and prayers.
